DOP, DOC, IGT MARKS




About our Olive Oil DOP:

Protected designation of origin, better known by the acronym DOP, is a trademark of the legal protection of the name which is given by the European Union to those foods whose peculiar characteristics depend primarily or exclusively from the territory in which they were produced.
The geographical environment includes both natural factors (climate, environmental characteristics) and human factors (production techniques handed down over time, craftsmanship, know-how) that, when combined, allow for a unique product outside of a certain area production.
For a product to be PDO stages of production, processing and preparation must take place in a defined geographical area. Who does PDO must adhere to strict production rules laid down in the specification, and compliance with these rules is guaranteed by a specific control body.
Procedure for the recognition of the PDO 
Under Article 4, paragraph 1 of Regulation (EC) n. 510/2006, "to qualify for a protected designation of origin, an agricultural product or foodstuff must comply with a specification '.
Pursuant to Article 5, "the application for registration may only be submitted by an association."
The second sentence of Article 5 provides the definition of "association", which states: "For the purposes of this Regulation, the term" association "means any organization, regardless of its legal form or composition, of producers or processors working with the same agricultural product or the same food. Other interested parties may participate in the group. A natural or legal person may be treated as a group in accordance with the detailed rules laid down in Article 16, letter c) [of Regulation (EC) n. 510/2006]. "
The association may submit an application for registration only for the agricultural products or foodstuffs which it produces or processes. An application for registration of the PDO is sent to the Member State in whose territory the geographical area.
The application for registration shall include the name and address of the applicant, the regulations provided for in Article 4, the "single document" containing the main elements of the specification and description of the product's link with the geographical environment or the 'geographical origin.
The Member State shall examine the application for registration with the appropriate means to check that it is justified and meets the conditions of the Regulation and, if it considers that the requirements of the Regulation are met, take a favorable decision and forward it to the European Commission the documentation for the final decision.
From the date of submission of the application to the European Commission the same Member State may provisionally to name a protection that will cease with effect from the date on which a decision on registration.


 In the case of our olive oil, we sell and attach a document certifying that it is a DOP product.



About our wines DOC-IGT


The designation of origin, known by the acronym DOC, is a brand of Italian origin used in the wine industry certifies that the area of origin and limited the harvest of the grapes used for the production of the product on which it is affixed the mark, it is used to designate a quality product and well-known, the characteristics of which are connected to the natural environment and the human factor and meet a specific production regulations approved by ministerial decree.
These wines, before being put on the market, should be submitted at the factory to a preliminary chemical-physical and organoleptic tests to certify compliance with the requirements of the specification, the non-compliance prevents the marketing labeled DOC. The brand was created in the fifties Roman lawyer Rolando Ricci, an official of the then Ministry of Agriculture.


The typical geographical indication, better known by the acronym IGT is the third of the four classifications of wine recognized by the Italian Government, indicates quality table wines produced in areas generally large. The requirements are less restrictive than those required for wines with a protected designation of origin (DOC).
This class includes table wines produced in specific regions or geographical areas (authorized by law), sometimes according to a generic production rules, which may indicate on the label, in addition to the color, even the indication of the vines used and the year of harvest.
The mention IGT can be replaced by a statement Vin de pays for the wines produced in the Valle d'Aosta, and the mention Landwein for wines produced in the province of Bolzano.
Generally fall into this category of table wine quality but lower than wines with Denomination of Origin Controlled and Protected Designation of Origin (DOCG). It should be noted also that the placement of a wine among IGT is due both to business decisions, and the impossibility for the composition (grapes used), to be within the discipline of quality wine production areas (DOC and DOCG ).
